Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon Qualifications: • MB BCh BAO Queen’s University Belfast 2001 • MRCS (Ed) Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh 2005 • MPhil Queen’s University Belfast 2009 • FRCS T&O Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh 2012 Mr Laurence Cusick is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in Primary and Revision Hip and Knee replacement, Orthopaedic Oncology and Trauma. Having graduated in 2001 from Queen’s University Belfast (QUB), he completed his basic surgical training before gaining a place on the Northern Ireland Higher training programme. During his training he undertook an 18- month fellowship in hip and knee replacement surgery in Musgrave Park Hospital, Belfast under the care of Prof. D Beverland and at this time completed a postgraduate research degree from QUB in 2009. He was granted Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh in 2012. Subsequently he underwent further subspecialty fellowships in complex primary and revision hip and knee replacement surgery, and bone and soft tissue sarcoma surgery in Perth, Australia under the care of Prof. P Yates, Prof. D Wood and Prof. R Carey Smith for 1 year and in the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham under the care of Prof. L Jeys, Prof. R Grimer for 6 months. Mr Cusick was appointed a Consultant in 2014 working in both Musgrave Park Hospital and the Royal Victoria Hospital. He performs a high volume of hip and knee replacements including bilateral (both sides same day) and day-case arthroplasty. He has extensive experience in complex revision hip and knee replacement and has introduced innovative surgical techniques used in orthopaedic oncology to the management of severe revision and trauma cases in Northern Ireland. He is a core member of the Regional Sarcoma Service. He maintains a keen interest in research with publications in peer reviewed journals and presentations at National and International conferences. He is involved with the training of future orthopaedic surgeons.
